OCT 2010 - Mission Focus — Be A World Class Christian
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 2:8
After dwelling on the topic of “Living Spirit Filled Lives” in the last quarter, we have come to our next sub-theme of the year which is “Living Beyond our Jerusalem”. In the context of Acts 2:8, Jerusalem represent their familiar and immediate surround while Judea, Samaria and the ends of the earth represent a much larger and ultimate growing global influence.
Firstly, the early disciples in Acts have to be bold and passionate to share their faith in their immediate surround with similar culture. Secondly, they were made to go beyond Jerusalem to Samaria and other parts of the known world, mainly due to persecution.
What and where is our Jerusalem? I guess it refers to those familiar people in our daily contacts.
Are we living god honouring lifestyles and building meaningful relationships that are conducive to sharing the gospel message?
Make no mistake, God’s purpose for us is to be “larger than life” – and to be visionary world class Christians! We are born for a time like no other with divine purpose and eternal destiny.
Through partnering with local outreaches and overseas mission agencies, we can have a lasting impact and global influence. We shall continue to enhance our current involvement in many local Christian outreaches such as “Redfrogs”, REAP programs, World vision, Compassion and several other overseas mission and aid organisations to reach beyond the confine of our local church.
I believe as we seek to be useful for the Kingdom, the Lord will gladly use us. That is such a privilege, is it not? When we are tireless in sowing, in due season, we shall reap deeper personal growth as well as the corporate growth of the church.
