Message Outline 25/6/06

The Law, the Sin and the Great Salvation

1. How does God reveal Himself to us?
General Revelation – His Creation (Psalms 19:1-6 see also Romans 1:20)
Specific Revelation – through His “Laws” the words of the Bible (Ps 19:7-11)
Inner conviction & prompting of the Holy Spirit (Ps 19:12-13)

2. The Beauty of the “Law”
7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul;
    The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
 8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
       The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
 9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;
       The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
 10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold;
         Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
 11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
         And in keeping them there is great reward. (Psalm 19 in KJV)

3. He who is forgiven little loves little
Let us NOT shy from preaching about Sin and the harsh reality of Hell
Parable of the debtors (Lk 7:41-47)
Story of the traffic fine
Story of the parachutes

4. We don’t need grace if there is No Law, No righteousness and No hell
The central message of the book of Romans - “But sin is not taken into account when there is no law. (Rom 5:13b)
We must appreciate what we have been saved from
Let us go back to the 2 passenger on the planes
We should live our lives differently when we know our ultimate destination!

Our response and take home message
1. I love the word of God, for it tells us the Law, the Sin, and the Great Salvation.
2. Do we appreciate what are we saved from? “he who is forgiven little loves little” (Luke 7:47b)
3. Hell is a place where fear, disconnection, doubts, regret, pain and misery abides, and where “" worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.'
4. In Heaven, there is no tears, no crying, no pain, no darkness (Rev 21:3-4; 22:1-5); furthermore, we are meant to reign with Christ (Rev 5:10; 20:6); But most of all, we will have real peace and joy, as well as the abiding presence of God.
5. Do you feel that wearing the “parachute” is a pain and a chore?
6. Or are you really really grateful for so great a salvation ? (Heb2: 3)
- Ps Jeremy Wong

Message outline by Rev. Dr T.S Lau 18/6/06

Having priority to take time with the Lord like Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus.
It is always easy to be so busy like Martha but neglect our personal walk with God.

At the Home of Martha and Mary Luke 10:38-42
38As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"
41"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42but only one thing is needed.Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." (NIV)

Like Martha, we are prone to be ...
1. Distracted by the urgent things which needs to be done
2. And when w are distracted from focusing on waiting and renewing ourselves before the Lord...
3. We will complain - "don't you care Lord?"
4. We will have the distorted notion that we are the ONLY ONE doing the work..
5. We will even begin to instruct the Lord .. "Tell my sister to help me!"
6. We are worried and upset

The Response form the Lord ...
1. Don't be upset,trying to do many things for me; only ONE thing is needed..
2. What is the one thing in your life that you have been focusing on?
3. It is the ONE thing that the Lord wants you to do well first......

Covenant of Grace - Message outline 11/6/06

The following are the outline of today’s message:
A. The binding nature of covenant in Ancient Near East
Our God is a Covenant keeping God
Example: Genesis 12 & 15 – Covenant with Abraham. See Also Joshua chapters 2 & 9 – Rahab & the Gibeonites

B. The story of Mephibosheth ( 2 Samuel 9:1-13)
Mephibosheth means “shameful thing” probably due to his crippled feet.
He lived in “Lo-debar” – a dry desolate place, in virtual exile
His carers were Mackir (sold), and Ziba who was after his inheritance
He had been told from young that King David was after his life!
Imagine the fear, now David summoned him to come to Jerusalem!
What treatment did Mephibosheth received instead?

C, In a sense, Mephibosheth represents all fallen humans
-We’ve lost our princely status due to our forebear’s disobedience
-We are powerless and disabled from the fall
- We are being a sold a lie that the Heavenly King is out to get us!
- Most Christians are living a dry and unfruitful life (Lo-debar)

D. Covenant to be honoured even if entered into by deception
In Joshua 9:3-16, the Gibeonites deceived the Israelites – saying that they were from a very far country by wearing old clothing and stale food. The unsuspecting Israelites made covenant to spare them.
Generations later, God make the Israelites accountable after King Saul killed some of them. (See 2 Sam 21).

Application & Discussion Questions
1.Try defining “grace” and “covenant” in your own words
2.Why is grace so crucial to the Christian gospel? Read (Eph 2:8)
3.How and why did we lose our original status of princes & princesses?
4.How was our original status restored to us?
5.The fact that we are invited to dine with the King (Rev. 3:20) speaks volumes about the “New Covenant” that Jesus has wrought for us; How should we live as recipients of such wonderful grace/unmerited favours?
6.Are you content to live in “Lo-debar” (a dry, desolate and unfruitful place)?
7.We know that God looks past our disabilities and imperfections, how should we treat other similar imperfect humans?
8.When the “King” is temporary absent, how do we continue to be faithful, even in adversity, so that one day we will be vindicated and rewarded?

Sunday 4th June 2006 Message By Uncle Say Yaun

Sunday 4th June 2006 Message By Uncle Say Yaun

The ABC of Faith
A is for Adonai - Hebrew for Lord. The Supreme Creator Lord

B is for Basiliea - Greek Word for the Kingdom – Kingdom of God

C is for Christos – The Greek word for Christ – the anointed one. “Messiah” in Hebrew. Jesus Christ means the anointed saviour

The preceding keywords carry the key concepts for us as Christians.

We are to live under the Lordship of the our Lord and King. We are to help usher in and extend the kingdom.
In fact “The rule of God is established wherever God's will is obeyed and God's character is manifested." - Gregory Boyd

The next set of ABCs
A stands for “Attitudes” – attitudes is more important than talents. And out attitudes should be like that of Christ – See Phil 2:5-11 humility, and teachable etc. Availability is more important than ability.

B stands for "Behaviours” - The right attitudes will result in right behaviors.

C stands for "Character" – Christ like character is what we seek to emulate.
Instead of complaining we are to praise and bless.
Instead of taking, we should be giving
Instead of hating, we should forgive … etc
